Is this a family disease?
Addiction is a family disease. Abuse of drugs and alcohol greatly impacts all members of an addict's family regardless of whether or not they they also abuse psychoactive substances. This is indicative of the great emotional , physical, nd social strain that addicts place on their families.
"Even though it was my son that drank until he got sick, putting him in treatment was harder for me than for him. I knew he denied his drinking. I didn't realize that I did too even though I didn't drink myself and that I had almost as many problems as he did."

The family is often ignored and neglected in the treatment of addictive disease. Continued stress from family problems or troubled family members makes it difficult for the recovering addict to remain abstinent.
